DROPBOX arrives in Paris!

Dropbox, the cloud-based storage and transfer solution, has just opened an office in Paris, its first one in continental Europe.

Valued at $10 billion and expected to go public soon, Dropbox is looking for growth outside its home market in the USA: their data indicates 300 million users, of whom 70% are located abroad.

According to CEO Drew Houston, one out of five French Internet users is on Dropbox, representing more than 8 million people, including many of the numerous Paris Region startups. Major groups are also present in the Dropbox client portfolio, including SNCF (the national railroad), through its Naviland Cargo subsidiary. An agreement has been signed with Lagardère Active, another major account, on a technology partnership to support the digital transformation of the French media group. Under the agreement, Dropbox will provide storage and collaborative sharing solutions to every team in the group. As part of this technology upgrade, all 3,000 employees of Lagardère Active will open Dropbox for Business accounts.

Dropbox intends to gradually grow its presence in Paris, starting with a small core team. Houston sees a huge potential here: more than 2.5 million French companies will use at least one cloud service within three years. Currently, that figure is 12% according to Insee, with larger firms more likely to already be users. Welcome to the Paris Region, Dropbox!
